چکیده

Diphtheria antitoxin antibodies were measured by solid-phase enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) on the basis of a calibrated antibody standard. Protective antibodies were expressed as International Units per ml (IU/ml). The method of quantitation employed is easily performed under routine conditions. Sensitivity proved to be 0.09 mIU/ml, and direct measurement of antitoxin concentrations ranging from 0.12 to 8.30 mIU/ml was carried out by using the standard curve. With a routine assay dilution of 1:100, serum concentrations from 12 to 830 mIU/ml were covered.

Seroprevalence of antibody against diphtheria among the population in Khon Kaen province, Thailand.

To assess diphtheria immunity in the northeastern region of Thailand, a seroepidemiological survey was undertaken in 2011 from 516 healthy individuals (age range 2-87 years) in Khon Kaen province. Diphtheria antitoxin levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and titers of ≥0.1 IU/mL were considered to be protective antitoxin levels. Among the studied population, 94.8% have full...

Report: seroprevalence of corynebacterium diphtheriae among vaccinated population of Rawalpindi/Islamabad, Pakistan.

Diphtheria is a communicable disease of global significance, and its outbreaks have to be reported to the world community under the International Health Regulations (IHR). A pilot seroepidemiological survey was conducted to assess immunity status of diphtheria among healthy individuals of Rawalpindi/Islamabad (Pakistan), who had been administered at least one dose of the vaccine against the dis...

The seroprevalence of diphtheria among adults in Izmir-Turkey.

A serological survey to determine the immunity to diphtheria in the adult population in Izmir-Turkey was conducted according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization. A total of 339 blood samples were collected from subjects aged between 20 and 81, and diphtheria antitoxin levels were measured by the enzyme linked immunosorbent assay method. Titers below 0.1 IU/ml were considered...

Study on the use of an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in determining human antibodies to diphtheria toxin as compared with a reference toxin neutralization assay.

Serum samples from 156 Greek persons were assessed by an IgG-specific enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and a reference tissue culture toxin-neutralization (TN) assay for the quantitation of diphtheria toxin antibodies. By the reference method, 7.7% of the persons were susceptible to diphtheria (antitoxin < 0.01 IU/ml), 28.8% had basic protection (antitoxin 0.01-0.09 IU/ml) and 63.5% we...

Collaborative study for the validation of serological methods for potency testing of diphtheria toxoid vaccines - extended study: correlation of serology with in vivo toxin neutralisation.

Phase I of BSP034 collaborative study was extended in two laboratories to include correlation of serology with in vivo toxin neutralisation test (TNT) using 2 separate sets of 20 serum pools, produced in-house. The study investigated the extent to which the in vitro methods for diphtheria antibodies, Vero cell assay and diphtheria enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for diphtheria antitoxin (D-EL...
